EBUconnect
2008 - Newsletter #7.
29.04.2008 @ 21:59
CET by Max Johns in the name of the EBUconnect Steering Group
2008
When it's travel time...
EBUconnecttakes place at the Casino, at the shores of the Lake in
Lucerne, just a short walk from the city center and at the doorsteps
of some hotels like the Montana, Palace and Schweizerhof. If you
are new to Lucerne and have installed Google Earth on your computer,
you can have a very comfortable preview of the situation. Just click
on the attached placemark and you will get the view from above and
you can pre-travel the place.
When it's dinner time...
Thursday night is dinner time- after the first conference day. A
great chance to meet and mingle, to chat and connect. This year,
we will be at a very Swiss place on firm soil, at the Zunfthaus
Pfistern. (Try to pronounce that one for a test!) We will meet at
19:30h for an apéro on the terrace, 20:00h is dinner time.
When it's conference time...
...you will never be alone! About 650 people from TV stations around
Europe have signed up and converge on Lucerne for the Eurovision
TV Summit. 650 people like you. At the Common Focus Day on Wednesday,
where most of you join the Eurovision Summit 2008, you will meet
many of them. At EBUconnect starting Thursday, you will be with
some 125 colleagues from more than 20 broadcasters. It is another
record attendance for EBUconnect. So pack enough business cards,
good humour and lots of energy. We can't wait to see you!

KeynoteSpeaker: Tyler Brûlé
"This cannot be done", "Nobody wants to read or see
that," were only some of the most frequent and friendlier comments
before Canadian-born and UK-basedTyler Brûlé launched his latest
endeavour, "MONOCLE
magazine". A monthly magazine delivering original coverage
in global affairs, business, culture and design. It is different
by design and content. It is global. It is setting standards. And
it is stunningly successful. After his initial career as a reporter
for the BBC,Tyler Brûlé had already once stunned the design community
with his Wallpaper*
magazine, which became an instant publishing success and award-winning
international phenomenon. In May 2002 Brûlé sold his stake in Wallpaper*
and continued his editorial endeavours, creating two television
series for BBC Four,
The Desk and Counter Culture. Tyler has a regular column for
the International Herald Tribune and also contributes to the New
York Times Magazine. At EBUconnect 2008 he will explain his secrets
of how intelligent content, innovative design and challenges to
all senses can become an instant success in the market.
The Chief Agitator C.R.A.P. comes to talk to you
"Calling all Heads of Presentation, Presentation Directors
and Presentation Managers. I used to be like you - overworked, underpaid,
UNAPPRECIATED. I used to work 25/8, stuck in the broomcupboard office,
whilst other Heads frolicked at international conferences. Then
one morning I woke to the truth - we don't need in vision contininuity,
we don't need live continuity, we don't need continuity announcers
at all! Come to this workshop to learn how to save thousands of
Euros to spend on yourself schedule. Come and be told the facts
the announcers don't want us to know. United we stand! The date,
time and location of this workshop are confidential. There have
been instances of continuity announcers trying to infiltrate and
disrupt proceedings." The reknown Chief Agitator C.R.A.P. (Campaign
for the Rights of Announcers in Presentation) Liz Scourfield Roberts
will come with workshop leader and session moderator Iolanda Prys.
But don't tell anyone!
